LANCASTER—More boating, fishing and aquaculture are on the way to Carter Cove as Lancaster County recently broke ground on the latest park project.

When completed in spring of 2027, the Carter Cove County Park, 212 Carter’s Cove Drive, Weems, will include a boat ramp, kayak launch, nature trails, a fishing pier, picnic shelter and a pavilion with seating for educational programs about aquaculture, according to John Bateman, assistant county administrator.

The pavilion, named the Oyster Heritage Learning Center, sits on the footprint of an old oyster house on the property that could not be saved. Educational programs are planned and in a partnership with the Friends of the Rappahannock, a spat on shell tank will be located nearby.

Zandler Inc. of Hayes is serving as the general contractor for the project.
