Menokin Artscape opens

Metal sculptor John Latell assembles Purities & Absurdities at Menokin.

RICHMOND COUNTY—Purities & Absurdities, a thirteen-and-a-half foot tall sculpture by John Latell of Weems, recently was installed at Menokin Artscape as part of the historical landmark’s celebration of the country’s 250th birthday.

Latell is one of three sculptors showing at Menokin Artscape through September 2027. The two other participating sculptors are Lynda Andrews-Barry of Washington, D.C., and Yolanda Hoskey of Brooklyn, N.Y.

The public is invited to an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. October 2, at Menokin, 4037 Menokin Road, Warsaw.

“The challenge for me with this show is stabilizing such a tall steel and composite sculpture,” said Latell, who established Wicomico Forge Gardenworks and Northern Neck Railings and Gates as businesses that support his fine art work. He can be reached at wicomicoforgejohnl@gmial.com.

Menokin, a National Historic Landmark in a ruinous state, was the home of Francis Lightfoot Lee, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
