Halloween Spooktacular boat parade set Oct. 17

LANCASTER—The Rappahannock River Yacht Club (RRYC) will host its annual Halloween Spooktacular decorated boat parade on October 17.

The parade will follow the same format as in previous years, reported Joseph Hotard. Boats will gather on the Eastern Branch of Carter Creek off Custom Yacht Service for a 4:30 p.m. start and will be guided by RRYC boats.  The parade route will take boats past RRYC docks for judging and proceed past The Tides Inn.

Boats will be judged in a variety of fun categories such as spookiest, most imaginative and best costumes, said Hotard.

This is a community event, he said. The parade is not limited to RRYC members and the public is encouraged to participate.

Skippers are urged to use their imaginations to turn their boats, sail, power, electric, into their best interpretation of a Spooktacular Halloween. “You just can’t have too many ghosts, goblins and witches on board,” said Hotard.

RRYC grounds and docks will be open to the public for parade viewing from 4:30 p.m. until the parade ends.  Everyone is welcome, especially accompanied children in costume. Those viewing the parade at RRYC can enjoy cookies and hot cider provided by the club. Everyone is encouraged to come cheer on their favorite decorated boats.

RRYC will host a party following the parade open to members, guests and registered non-members participating in the parade, he said.

Registration is required. To register, go to www.rryc.org.
