31st Turkey Shoot Regatta sails Oct. 2-4

LANCASTER—The 31st annual Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta is set for October 2 through 4 on the Rappahannock River off Carter Creek and Irvington.

This event, one of the largest races in the southern Chesapeake Bay, raises funds for two local Hospice organizations —Hospice Support Services of the Northern Neck and Hospice Services-Riverside—and is the second largest such regatta in the U.S., said Tom Wicks, regatta committee publicist.

Co-sponsored by both the Rappahannock River Yacht Club (rryc.org) in Irvington and the Yankee Point Yacht Club (YPYC.us) in Lancaster, this regatta is open to all monohulls 18 feet and longer—earlier restriction for classic designs has been discontinued. The RRYC site in Irvington on Carter Creek will be the place to go for meetings, music and entertainment, food, drinks, scores, awards and photographs.

To register, go to Yachtscoring.com.

For related details, go to http://turkeyshootregatta.org/. Specifics will be found, such as information about the welcoming cocktail party Friday evening with the band Deadrise; timing of the races both days, dinner and drinks Saturday and music with Curtis Knocking; and awards ceremony on Sunday. These events are open to the public.

Go to https://www.ypyc.us for information regarding the Yankee Point Yacht Club. Go to https://rryc.org for the land-side location of the Rappahannock River Yacht Club.
