USAF Heritage of America Band to give 32nd concert in Irvington June 27

LANCASTER—The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band will celebrate America 250, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, with a free concert at 6:30 p.m. June 27 at the Irvington Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington.

The band will perform rousing marches, patriotic favorites, Broadway hits, film scores, swinging jazz and orchestral classics at the flag-waving concert presented by the Irvington Village Improvement Association (VIA). The program also will include a tribute to the branches of the Armed Forces.

Folks are urged to bring chairs and picnics to the performance. Concert sponsor Chesapeake Bank will offer free hot dogs, chips and desserts from 5:30-6:45 p.m.

This will be the 32nd time the USAF Heritage of America Concert Band has played in Irvington, said Jill Worth. “We’re especially honored that this ensemble of talented musicians could return to Irvington as part of its commemoration of the nation’s 250th birthday year,” she said.

The band of 60 musicians, stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, entertains more than 1.5 million people each year at some 300 events for the public and in support of Air Force morale and protocol events.

Worth said the band is justly proud of its role of preserving and enriching America’s military and musical heritage into the 21st century during its regular tours throughout the Carolinas, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.

“The band concerts are a grand summer tradition in Irvington, attracting hundreds of people from throughout the region and beyond,” she said.
