Middlesex Shrove Tuesday pancake events coming up

Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Tuesday or Pancake Day, falls on Tuesday, March 4 in 2025. It is the final day of Shrovetide, marking the end of pre-Lent. Lent begins the following day with Ash Wednesday. 

Middlesex County churches offering pancake events in observance of the special day include Urbanna United Methodist Church and Philippi Christian Church.

Urbanna United Methodist Church (UUMC) invites the community to its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner, which is set for 5-7 p.m. March 4. A brief Ash Wednesday Service will be offered on that Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the UUMC sanctuary to accommodate those attending the pancake supper.

The supper, which is free, is sponsored by the UUMC Men’s group and any donations given will go towards the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

Supper offerings include pancakes with or without chocolate chips, bacon, fried apples and beverage in the UUMC Fellowship Hall.

Call the UUMC church office (758-5308) 8-11 a.m. Tuesday-Friday if you plan to come and join them. The church is at 221 Marston Ave. in Urbanna.

Philippi Christian Church in Deltaville will have a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner Fundraiser on Tuesday, March 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, apples, fruit, toppings, syrup and beverages. The suggested price is $12 for adults, free for children 10 and younger. You can dine in or take out.

The funds raised will benefit the Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department and Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
