Golden Village Christmas to offer a variety of festive holiday activities on Dec. 2

NORTHUMBERLAND—Both children and adults are invited to do their Christmas shopping at Golden Village Christmas from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. December 2 at Rice’s Hotel/ Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.

Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern will host a Golden Village Christmas from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. The event will offer shopping, caroling, hot mulled cider, bake sale, visits with Santa (11 a.m.-1 p.m.), decorative door swags, holiday greenery, gift vendors, artisan guilds, Heritage Arts Gift Shoppe, antique car and Corvette show and concessions. For $2 per gift, elementary school-aged children may buy gifts for their family. Tavern elves will assist them. There also will be caroling, free hot mulled cider, a bake sale and visits with Santa, reported executive director Corinne Becker.

Outside on the Tavern Green, there will be a variety of gift vendors. Freshly-made decorative door swags and other holiday greenery will be for sale by Tavern volunteers.

Inside the Tavern, shoppers will find the Heritage Arts Center Gift Shoppe, which offers artisan-crafted gifts for sale, plus several artisans at work in their studios.

Upstairs, the Spinners & Weavers’ Studio will be open and guild members will demonstrate their skills. Downstairs, the Quilt Guild will be in their studio. Ye Olde Bake Shoppe will sell homemade cakes, candy, breads, pies and cookies, all made by Tavern volunteers.

Children will have their own shopping area inside the Tavern Meeting Building. For $2 per gift, elementary school-aged children may buy gifts for their family. Tavern elves will help them select appropriate gifts and then wrap the gifts as well. The historic Tavern will be decorated for the season. Santa will greet children from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. inside the Carriage House. Bring a camera for picture taking.

The Tavern Blacksmith Guild will be at work in the Tavern Forge. The Tavern Woodworking Guild will be in their colonial era workshop at the Carriage House.

Members of the Antique Auto Club of America and the Northern Neck Corvette Club will cruise in with their antique and classic cars.

The Northumberland Public Library Mobile Library will be open for tours. Free books will be given to all children who visit.

The Tavern’s food concession will offer refreshments inside the Tavern Meeting Building. The menu will include breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, chili dogs, chips, hot and cold beverages, plus sweet treats. Tavern volunteers will serve homemade soups, fresh-baked breads, quiche, hot sandwiches and desserts at The Tavern Café.

Costumed docents will distribute candy canes.
