Reedville Fishermen’s Museum announces holiday celebrations

NORTHUMBERLAND—Christmas in Reedville festivities will be held in December 6. The event is sponsored by the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum (RFM), 504 Main Street, Reedville, and Bethany Methodist Church, 454 Main Street.

Santa will arrive at the museum dock on the classic Elva C at 3 p.m. Guests will visit the RFM model train shop with the conductor from “The Polar Express” and Buddy from “Elf” at 3:15 a.m.

From there, guests will go next door to Bethany UMC where cookies and milk will be served with Santa, beginning at 3:30 p.m. There will be photo opportunities with Santa, the conductor and Buddy.

At 5 p.m., the community crab basket tree will be lighted at RFM’s Watermen’s Park, the grassy lot on Main Street adjacent to Festival Halle, 177 Main Street.

Community members are urged to decorate a basket for the tree,  Pick up a basket from the museum for $15, take it home, paint a design in acrylic paint and return it to the museum by December 1.

Bethany UMC will host the Festival Chorale Christmas Concert at 3 p.m. December 14.

For the holiday season, RFM will be open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

The RFM model train shop will be open from 10 a.m.-noon Thursdays, except November 27 and December 25; and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. November 28 and 29 and December 6, 13, 20, 27.

RFM will close for the season December 27.

Looking ahead

RFM will sponsor a movie or speaker in January, February and March 2026 at the Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department, 119 Main Street.

The schedule will include the movie, “The Sinking of the Fenwick Island,” January 5; a book talk and signings with Tom Briggs, “War on the Inland Sea;” and Susan Swift and Heather Cockrell, “The ABCs of Oystering on the Chesapeake Bay;” and March 3, book talk and signing, Joseph W. Smith, “Menhaden.” The programs will begin at 6:30 p.m.

RFM will reopen for the 2026 season on April 4, the same day as the Easter in Reedville celebration.
