NNSPS posts course and seminar schedule

LANCASTER—The Northern Neck Sail & Power Squadron (NNSPS) recently announced upcoming educational opportunities.

All courses and seminars will be held at the NNSPS Classroom, 453C North Main Street, Kilmarnock, reported public relations coordinator K.C. Cavallaro. To register, call 339-7218, or email seo@abcnnk.org.

Courses will include:

  • Engine Maintenance, 6-8 p.m., September 15 and continuing eight weeks. Learn fundamentals of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, propellers and steering mechanisms. Understand maintenance tasks, diagnose problems, how to communicate with a mechanic and take an active role in keeping the boat in tiptop shape. The fee is $75 for members and $95 for others.

Seminars will include:

  • Introduction to Marine Weather, 10 a.m. September 20. Learn how to recognize changing weather, anticipate storms, fog and wind shifts. The fee is $10.
  • All About VHF/DSC Marine Radio, 1 p.m. September 20. Learn about VHF radios, single side band, digital selective calling and other communication systems and their applications. The fee is $10.
