New gallery now open in Deltaville

This is an interior shot of the newly opened Arts at the Point pop-up gallery on General Puller Highway (Route 33) in Deltaville.

Arts In the Middle (AIM) President Michael Kunzinger recently announced a new Middlesex County arts venue — the opening of its pop-up gallery “Arts at the Point.” The pop-up site will be open from now through May and feature more than a dozen artists. The new gallery is located at 17410 General Puller Highway (Route 33) in Deltaville.

Located diagonally across General Puller Highway from the Cafe by the Bay restaurant near Deltaville’s Stingray Point, Arts at the Point aims to highlight the wealth of creative talent in the Deltaville area, and to serve as a gathering point for the local arts community. A lineup of events is planned, including classes, artist meet-ups, paint nights, and more. Details and events will be announced in the Rivah Visitor’s Guide and on AIM social media sites.

Exhibiting artists include, in alphabetical order:

  • Beth Bader (ceramics).
  • Jody Ball (pastel, oil).
  • Jack Banks (woodcut, watercolor).
  • Linda Brendt (ceramics).
  • Judy Bumgardner (water-color).
  • Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda (acrylic).
  • Patricio Foronda (acrylic).
  • Lynn Gillikin (fabric arts).
  • Mary Ellen Huennekins (fabric arts).
  • Kathleen Noffsinger (oil and cold wax).
  • Diane Lucas (painting).
  • Lauren Moye (painting).
  • Margaret Thompson (painting, mixed media).

Additional artists will join at later times.

The pop-up gallery is scheduled to run from now through May 31, and be open weekly Thursday and Friday 1-5 p.m., and Saturday 10-5 p.m.

The gallery is run in conjunction with the owner of the property, Michelle McKinney, who aims to continue the space as a gallery at a later date. McKinney studied art at Virginia Commonwealth University and is well-versed in various mediums. The space is a well-preserved example of the picturesque cottages which were once standard in Deltaville during its heyday in the 20th century as a vacation destination. In recent years it was a consignment shop owned by Carter Dean, and later the Man Cave shop.
