Town of Urbanna launching Second Saturdays festivals

Middlesex – The Town of Urbanna is launching a new series of street festival celebrations called Second Saturdays. They will run 4-8 p.m. every second Saturday of the month from May through September. This includes May 14, June 11, July 9, Aug. 13 and Sept. 10. The location is the Urbanna Historic District, which includes Virginia Street from Cross Street to Prince George Street. The event’s concerts will be on the Urbanna Town Green adjacent to Virginia Street.

There will be some open mic performances and various bands. The Americana-folk singer Betsy Schaefer of Christchurch is expected to headline the May 14 concert. Many know Schaefer from her open mic performances at Urbanna’s Something Different restaurant before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jay “JNM” Camacho is expected to perform at the June 11 concert, according to Second Saturdays Entertainment coordinator Beth Justice. Sons of Bach is scheduled for the Aug. 13 concert. Justice, who is also the lead vocalist of area classic rock band Sweet Justice, said musical acts are still being lined up for the July and September concerts.

“It’s going to be a fun time for our town and there will be a lot of neat vendors and even a play area for the children,” Justice said. She added that Second Saturdays will help bring the community together and bring revenue into Urbanna.

Vendors announced as of mid-April include Zoll Vineyards, Gloucester Brewing Company, That Damn Mary Brewing Company, Big Mike’s Grillin’ and BBQ, Big Mike’s Sweets and Treats, Justice Sweets, Positive Pizza, Hungry Arrow, On the Flip Side, Cakes by Jen and Northern Neck Popcorn.
