“Sundays at Two” 29th season to open Jan. 12

The 29th season of the “Sundays at Two” lecture series will open at 2 p.m. January 12, at the Lancaster Community Library in Kilmarnock.

  • Brad Perry will be the featured speaker on January 19.

On January 19, Brad Perry will present “NASA & Me: From Apollo to the James Webb Space Telescope.” Perry will relate how the building of an Apollo Command Module in 1972 led to a career with NASA and as a professional astronomer, said Cooper.

  • On February 2, Terry Burke will present “Why America Is Losing ‘The War on Drugs’.” In his 30 years with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Burke was in the ‘war’ at every level throughout the globe, said Cooper. Beginning with undercover assignments and eventually running the DEA as deputy and acting administrator, he dealt with the issue at the enforcement level as well as agency head working with the Justice Department, Congress, White House and the media.
  • On February 16, Dan Noreen will present  “Myths and Facts About Organ Donation & Transplantation.” Noreen is a community affairs and philanthropy manager with the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) in Richmond. UNOS serves as the nation’s transplant system under contract with the federal government, working with thousands of volunteers, said Cooper.
  • On March 16, Michael Conlin will present “AI 101: Demystifying Artificial Intelligence.” Conlin will explore the trends and dynamics of AI through a variety of lenses: media, math, money, mechanics, marketing and the potential for mayhem from The Singularity, said Cooper.
  • Peter Theroux will be the featured speaker on March 23.

On March 23, Peter Theroux will present “In Obscura: Adventures in the World of Intelligence.” This career writer and intelligence officer will relate how his career success and fulfillment has not come from recognition and fame, but from a hidden life and missions focused in the shadows, said Cooper.

“We invite the public to join us for what promises to be another lively series of topics,” said Cooper.

All sessions are free and open to the public. Sessions are held in the upstairs meeting room of the library.
