NORTHUMBERLAND—Kids can unleash their creativity at one of two summer camps August 4-8 at the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, 504 Main Street, Reedville.
Art camp, for ages six and older, will be from 10 a.m.-noon.
Boat model building camp will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with a 30-minute break for lunch (bring your own). The minimum age is 10.
Each camp is $100 per child.
Shauna McCranie, a retired art teacher, started the art camp two years ago when she became executive director of the museum.
Art campers’ projects in previous years have included painting the houses on Main Street, taking a pontoon boat ride to paint the landmark Morris-Fisher stack and a fish boat from the water, making fish prints and using quick-drying modeling clay to make a diorama of sea life creatures, said McCranie. All finished art goes home with the campers.
For this year, she envisions each child will make a fish-shaped mold from chicken wire, cover it with clay and decorate it for a wall hanging.
The boat model building class, in its second year after a brief hiatus, will again be led by Bob Dillon, a volunteer in the model train shop for many years. First-year campers will construct a boat model called a Chesapeake Bay Flattie. Two campers who have already registered for their second year will build a more complicated design, Dillon said.
