Poetry book launch and signing set for Sept. 25 in Gloucester

cardinals-book“Until the Cardinals Carry Me Home”, the debut poetry collection by M. P. Slaughter is set to be released September 26 with a book launch and signing scheduled for Thursday, September 25.

M.P. Slaughter is a journalist, photographer, and poet residing in eastern Virginia with her fiancé and Mollie, her grandmother’s faithful companion. She began writing poetry at a young age as a way to navigate the world around her. She was previously published in The Stylus, Randolph-Macon College’s literary magazine.

In her debut poetry collection, Until the Cardinals Carry Me Home, M. P. Slaughter details the pain she experienced as a young woman who lost her grandmother to suicide. Ms. Slaughter lays bare the grief she suffered that first year after this tragic loss of her best friend. Through her loss and sadness, survival was found in the writing experience.

A book launch and signing will be hosted by Mermaid Cove Publishing on Thursday, September 25 from 4-6pm at the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal office. Ms. Slaughter will be signing her books as well as reading select poems from the book. Books will be available for purchase at the event. Come meet this local poet and celebrate the release of her new book.
