‘Make It a Heathsville Saturday’ will continue through October 16

The Heathsville Farmers Market is the centerpiece of the “Make It a Heathsville Saturday” events on third Saturdays in the Heathsville community.

NORTHUMBERLAND—The “Make It a Heathsville Saturday” initiative for 2021 opened April 17 with the Heathsville Farmers Market, sponsored by Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern.

On third Saturdays through October, the Heathsville community will come together to offer a variety of shopping and things to do, reported executive director Corinne Becker.

The market operates from 9 a.m-1 p.m. at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville and offers fresh Northern Neck produce and meats, bread and baked goods, flowers and nursery plants, gourmet peanuts and handcrafts. There are new vendors at every market.

Inside the Tavern, the Heritage Arts Center gift shop will be open. The Tavern Café will serve light luncheon fare, homemade by the volunteers of the Tavern’s Culinary Guild. Special on Market Day, the café makes glazed donuts, hot from the fryer.

Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern is home to four artisan guilds, which will demonstrate and sell their wares.

Elsewhere in the Heathsville community, visitors will find interesting shops, attractions, eats and historical sites, said Becker.

Pick up an Historic Heathsville Walking Map at the Tavern, and wander past homes and structures from every century since the 1700s.

The remaining market calendar for 2021 includes:

  • May 15, a Wine, Brew & Spirits Fest, plus a flower show sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club.
  • June 19, a free jazz concert, sponsored by the Rappahannock Concert Association.
  • July 17, Kids Day.
  • August 21, Antique & Classic Car Round-up.
  • September 18, Living History Encampment.
  • October 16, Blessing of the Animals, sponsored by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
