Just like Groundhog Day, the Middlesex County Woman’s Club (MCWC) annual bread-baking class is rolling around again! This year Vera England and the Woman’s Club team will be experimenting with holiday breads. Every nationality has a traditional egg braid or filled loaf for their special holidays. This year participants will learn the basics of creating a bread like a challah, potica, or a Swedish cardamom loaf. You can choose your shape (traditional braid, wreath, valentine heart) and whether or not it is a filled loaf.
This will be a hands-on class, so be prepared to stir, squish, knead, roll, and pound and to immerse your hands in warm gooey dough. While the dough rises, participants will share a light lunch of our demonstration loaves and soup brought by volunteers.
Ingredients will be supplied, but participants will be given a list of supplies (bowls, baking pans, etc.) that they will need for the class. The class is $50, with all money raised (after the cost of ingredients) to support the missions of the Middlesex County Woman’s Club. This class is open to the public, men welcome. The class is best limited to 16 participants.
Each participant will take home two loaves of almost-ready bread to finish baking at home.
The class will be offered at the MCWC, 210 Virginia Street, Urbanna, on Monday, Feb. 2 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
