Heathsville Farmers Market September 20

NORTHUMBERLAND—The Heathsville Farmers Market will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, September 20, at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.

The market will feature over 60 vendors, offering Northern Neck produce, meat, honey, bread, baked goods, gourmet peanuts, roasted coffee and artisan handcrafts, reported RHHT director Corinne Becker.

As part of the market, a coalition of organizations will celebrate the launch of  Volunteer River Counties, a free online volunteer hub designed to connect individuals, families and other groups with volunteer opportunities. A number of participating organizations will be on site, highlighting their current volunteer needs. Community members interested in signing up for volunteer opportunities are invited to visit VolunteerRiverCounties.org.

Among other market attractions, the Northumberland Public Library’s “Mobile-Library” will be open for tours and historical flags will also be on view across the grounds.

Inside the Tavern, the Heritage Arts Center will be open for business. Shoppers will find artists in their studios and locally-made wares for sale.

Dating from the late 1700s, Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern is home to spinning and weaving, blacksmithing, woodworking and quilting guilds, which will be on-site demonstrating and selling their wares.

Elsewhere in the village, “Make It a Heathsville Saturday” participants welcome visitors. Stop by Ye Olde Book Shoppe, a used book store run by volunteers of the Northumberland Public Library. Browse St. Stephen’s classy church thrift shop and check out Kathy’s Korner for treasures for the home.

The Northumberland County Historical Society will offer tours of the old Northumberland Jail. Pick a Historic Heathsville Walking Map, and wander past homes and buildings from every century since the 1700s.
