NORTHUMBERLAND — “Make It a Heathsville Saturday” will return Saturday, August 17. The entire community will come together to offer a variety of fun shopping and things to do in conjunction with the Heathsville Farmers Market.

As part of the market theme, members of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Northern Neck Corvette Club will cruise to Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern (RHHT) for a car show from 9-11 a.m. Others also are welcome to display their vehicle. The public will be invited to vote for their favorite car to receive a “People’s Choice Award.”

The market, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at RHHT, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville, offers fresh produce, meat, flowers, nursery plants, baked goods, eggs, canned goods, honey, roasted coffee and handcrafts. There are new vendors at every market, said RHHT director Corinne Becker.

The Heritage Arts Center gift shop will be open. Shoppers will find artists in their studios with wares for sale. The Tavern Café will serve light luncheon fare and sweet treats, all made by the volunteers of the Tavern’s Culinary Group. Outside, a food concession stand will offer breakfast and lunch sandwiches.

Dating from the 1700s, the tavern is home to blacksmith, woodworker, quilter and spinner and weaver guilds.

Other shops, attractions and historical sites will be open to “Make It a Heathsville Saturday,” including the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church thrift store, Kathy’s Korner, Ye Olde Book Shoppe and the old Northumberland Jail. Pick up a Historic Heathsville Walking Map and wander past homes and buildings from every century since the 1700s.

All sites are on Northumberland Highway in Heathsville. Primis Bank is a major sponsor of this community initiative.
