Fall Soup Sale will replace LVHS oyster roast fundraiser

Volunteers Jane Henley and Karen Woodruff serve soup at a previous Lancaster Virginia Historical Society event.

LANCASTER – The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS) will hold a Fall Soup Sale fundraiser with Lancaster stew, bean and ham soup, and chicken noodle soup by the quart for $12 each.

Pre-orders are required by November 1 and pick-up will be from noon-3 p.m. November 14 at LVHS, 8346 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster. People can also sponsor “quarts for the community” for a $12 donation and LVHS will distribute soup to first responders and homebound senior citizens.

The sale will take the place of the organization’s annual November Oyster Roast, which is canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Proceeds support the LVHS museum, library and public programs with the mission to preserve, interpret, and share local history and genealogy.

Buyers can drive through to pick up their soup or they can park and visit the museum and gift shop, which will be open, she said.

Although the soups will be pre-packaged cold, people are welcome to bring other foods and their own gear to picnic on the museum grounds if the weather is nice, aded Pettyjohn.

Soup orders can be placed online at www.mkt.com/maryball, by calling 462-7280, or by mailing a check to LVHS, PO Box 97, Lancaster VA 22503. Order forms also are available from LVHS board members Frank Kober, Forrester, Pettyjohn, Carolyn Cook, Bill Broaddus, Alice Cooper, Ammon Dunton, Rebecca George, Badger Godwin, Jim Long, Stan Murphy, Garfield Parker, Paul Thompson, Lois Williams or Tyron Williams.
