LANCASTER—The Liz Moore & Associates “Cupcake Wars” event will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, February 13, at 276 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.
The Liz Moore & Associates Team will offer a delicious selection of four cupcakes in exchange for a donation to The Haven Shelter & Services Inc. (The Haven). Based in Warsaw, The Haven provides essential advocacy and shelter to individuals throughout the Northern Neck and Essex County.

Cupcake Wars is an annual company tradition where each real estate office showcases creatively decorated cupcakes for donations benefiting a featured local nonprofit. Beyond its Kilmarnock office, Liz Moore also has locations in Newport News, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach and Richmond.
“The Haven serves as a crucial safety net for adults and children experiencing intimate partner and sexual violence,” said managing broker Sandra Hargett. “It’s staggering to realize that, according to thehotline.org, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men aged 18 and older in the US have suffered severe physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime. This is simply unacceptable.”
The Haven is far more than a shelter—only 20% of its services are dedicated to providing shelter. “In 2025, The Haven provided 4,559 hours of advocacy to survivors and responded to 1,329 calls through its 24-hour crisis hotline. The Haven supported 320 individuals through community-based advocacy and provided safe shelter to 41 adults and 37 children, offering stability and support during times of crisis,” said executive director Ellen Yackel.

Supporting The Haven helps deliver vital services to individuals and families impacted by intimate partner and sexual violence, contributing to the prevention and elimination of such violence in the community. Nearly everyone knows someone affected by these issues. Public support allows The Haven to continue offering free and confidential services, raise awareness, and educate the community—fostering a safer environment for all.
The public is warmly invited to stop by, rain or shine, and pick up a box of cupcakes for a donation of their choice to The Haven Shelter & Services Inc.
“Local bakeries, including Michelle’s Sweet Treats in Warsaw, along with talented home bakers, are supporting this effort. Liz Moore agents are donning their baking hats to create dozens of cupcakes—just in time for Valentine’s Day. The Haven’s staff and volunteers are also contributing baked goods,” said Hargett. “We hope the community will respond generously to support The Haven Shelter & Services Inc.”
