St. Clare Walker High School plaque unveiling, reunion set

This is a 1960s aerial view of St. Clare Walker High School. It served as an all-Black high school in Cooks Corner during the segregation era.

MIDDLESEX––A St. Clare Walker High School plaque unveiling and school-wide reunion is planned for Saturday, Nov. 22. Plaques denoting the listing of St. Clare Walker High School on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register will be unveiled at noon at the historic St. Clare Walker High School site, now the Cooks Corner Office Complex, 2911 General Puller Highway, Cooks Corner. Complimentary refreshments will follow the unveiling.

The day will culminate with a school-wide reunion banquet at The Beacon, 2737 Greys Point Road, Topping. A hospitality hour will begin at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m. All students, faculty, and staff who attended or worked at St. Clare Walker High School or its predecessor Middlesex Training School are encouraged to attend.

The cost of the banquet is $50 per person, and the deadline for purchase of tickets is Oct. 31. Those interested in attending are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as possible in that space is limited.
