NORTHUMBERLAND—Anglers will be in search of big cobia on June 27 during the fourth annual Northern Neck Saltwater Shootout Tournament at Buzzard Point Marina, 468 Buzzards Point Road, Reedville.
Early registration of $220 must be received by June 14. Registration after and up until the day of the tournament is $245. Registration forms are available at nnksaltwatershootout.com. The rain date is June 28.
The top prize is $5,000; second place, $2,500, and third, $1,500. Prizes are based on a 75 boat entry. A lady angler for the single biggest fish is $500 plus a rod and reel combo and the youth division, 16 and younger, prize for single biggest fish is $250 plus a rod and reel combo. A Calcutta for the heaviest cobia and bluefish also will be awarded.
The tournament winner is determined by the heaviest overall weight, which can be from a single cobia or the combined weight of two cobia with fishing from 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The weigh station at Buzzard Point Marina on Cockrell Creek will be open from 1-4 p.m. with an awards ceremony to follow from 6-9 p.m.
The tournament committee was formed in 2023 with two objectives: to create an event that would allow all people to participate regardless of the size of their boat and to give back to the community through a scholarship program.
For the first time since the tournament’s inception, the scholarship program will fund four scholarships for 2026 graduating seniors, including two each from Lancaster and Northumberland high schools, according to committee member Heather Cockrell.
