Rappahannock River Waterfowl Show will be held March 18-19

The Rappahannock River Waterfowl Show (RRWS) will fill the White Stone Firehouse March 18-19 with original paintings, decorative carvings, gunning style decoys, folk art style carvings, prints, photography and bronze sculptures.

The Artist of the Year is Jim Wilson of Yorktown. Color copies of his original painting of a Kingfisher will be given to all show visitors during the weekend, reported coordinator Pat Bruce.

The weekend door prize is an original carving by Vernon Bryant of Perryville, Md. The Preview Night door prize is an original carving by Gordon Martin of Lanexa.

The Rappahannock Decoy Carvers Guild will hold a decoy carving contest on March 18 at the Woman’s Club of White Stone, 560 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. All other activities will be held at the firehouse, 579 Chesapeake Drive.

The Preview Night Gala is March 17. Tickets for this evening event must be purchased by March 10. Gala tickets are $70 each. For tickets, visit rrws.org or email patbruce@rrws.org.

On March 18-19, the White Stone Volunteer Fire Department (WSVFD) will sell a variety of lunch items including oyster sandwiches, clam chowder, barbecue and homemade desserts. There will be tables for eating.

Sponsors include W.F. Booth and Son, Inc. for the show prints, W.E. Kellum Seafood, Inc., Rappahannock Rentals, Currie Funeral Home and Willaby’s.

Show hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 and is good for both days. Children younger than age 12 are admitted free with an adult.

The show is sponsored by the WSVFD and proceeds benefit the operations of the department.
