NNO gala to feature music, dinner, dancing and auctions

The Original Rhondels

LANCASTER—The Northern Neck Orchestra (NNO) fundraiser, Bach to Beach, will offer chamber music by Johann Sebastian Bach and beach music by The Original Rhondels at a memorable night of music, dinner, dancing and auctions.

The event will be held from 5-10:30 p.m. March 29 at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck, 517 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Single tickets are $125. Tables of eight may be purchased for $1,000. Tickets must be purchased by March 7. Tickets are available at www.northernneckorchestra.org. All proceeds support the NNO.

“Please join us for Bach to Beach, a fun-filled evening which celebrates the NNO, the cultural gem of our community,” said gala chairman Eric Nost. “This fundraising event will help support the orchestra’s musical programs and help it flourish in the years ahead.”

Highlights will include chamber music with members of the NNO, silent and live auctions and dancing to beach music by The Original Rhondels.

The silent auction will feature more than a dozen items, including fine wines, a pasta-making party and a foursome at the Golden Eagle Golf Club. The live auction will offer several attractive trips, including a culinary expedition to Tuscany and Rome, a visit to Mozart’s Salzburg and the setting for “The Sound of Music,” a mountain escape in Wintergreen and a Brazilian dinner with music.

Chamber music will be performed by concert master and principal violinist Moises Cunha, violinist Nusheen Farahani, violist Jane Lenz and cellist Lee Richey. The quartet will play music by Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi and the Beatles, said Nost.

The event will be capped off by the Original Rhondels, a music tradition from Virginia Beach who have performed their hit recordings in almost every major city in the U.S.

With three top 10 hits, “May I,” “I’ve Been Hurt” and “What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am,” the band has delighted audiences with outstanding vocals, powerful brass and exciting showmanship, said Nost. These hits also topped the charts in Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Germany and Mexico.

In 1969, Bill Deal and the Rhondels began a recording career that would take them to Madison Square Garden and across the country. The unexpected passing of Deal in 2003 was a great loss to the music industry; however, the Original Rhondels are stronger than ever, performing the great music that earned them a star on the Legends Walk of Fame.

Band members include Brian Bleakley on vocals; Steve Ambrose on sax and vocals; Gary Hardy and Rollie Ligart on trumpets; Lee Quisenberry on keys, trumpet and vocals and Sonny Morris on drums and vocals.
