Museum Boat Shop Director to launch 2023 Turner Lecture series on Jan. 8

Deltaville Maritime Museum Museum Boat Shop Director John England

Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) and Holly Point Nature Park opens its 2023 Turner Lecture Series with a presentation on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. DMM Boat Shop Director John England will lay out the history of  museum boatbuilding, the restoration of the F.D. Crockett buyboat and of the new boat shop. Light refreshments will be served.  RSVPs are requested.

The opening lecture will be presented in DMM’s Maritime Parks Events Pavilion, located at 287 Jackson Creek Road in Deltaville. The program will include a question and answer time and meet and greet afterwards.

There is no admission fee, but a suggested donation is $10. Donations are encouraged to ensure the continuity of the series. They will go to support the Turner Education Fund.
As this presentation combines Chesapeake Bay history, Middlesex County history, maritime history, boat building and a locally known speaker, it will be a very well attended lecture.

The museum will be closed through January for needed maintenance and exhibit refurbishing. Though the museum itself will be closed, calls will be returned and email answered. As always, Holly Point Nature Park will be open dawn to dusk.

Organizers encourage DMM members and their friends to come out and attend these lectures. The museum’s educational activities are important to our mission. Call the DMM office at 804-776-7200 to RSVP. Or, email the museum staff at office@deltavillemuseum.com.

Find everything you need to know about the museum and park, donate, volunteer, or become a member with all its many benefits on the website. You may also write to DMM at P.O. Box 466, Deltaville, VA 23043.
