The 40th annual Rappahannock River Waterfowl Show is set for March 16-17, at the White Stone Firehouse, 597 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone.

The show will feature wildfowl art including original paintings, decorative wildfowl carvings, bronze sculpture, folk art carvings, gunning style decoys, photography and prints, as well as carving supplies, reported coordinator Pat Bruce.

The Preview Night Gala will be held Friday, March 15. Those who aren’t already on the mailing list and who wish to attend, may contact www.rrws.org, e-mail info@rrws.org or call 435-6355.

Preview Night tickets are $60 per person. Advance reservations are required for the gala by March 8.

The Artist of the Year is Guy Crittenden of Richmond. Color prints of Guy’s new painting, done specifically for this show, will be given out both days, said Bruce. Guests at the Preview Night will receive signed and numbered prints. The show print is sponsored by W. F. Booth and Son, Inc., she said.

The weekend door prize is an original carving by Chris Sampson of White Stone. The Preview Night door prize is an original painting by Karla Mann of Virginia Beach, said Bruce.

The Rappahannock Decoy Carvers and Collectors Guild will conduct their annual carving competition on March 16 in the White Stone Women’s Club building. Classes for a variety of wildfowl carvings will be offered, including ones for youth and buoy decoys. To register for the contest visit www.rappahannockdecoycarversguild.com.

The Virginia Waterfowlers Association will host a “paint a duck” area for children to paint a decoy. This feature of the show has grown in popularity over the last several years with about 50 decoys painted last year, she said.

Lunch will be available on Saturday and Sunday, with a special eating area.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 16 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 17. Admission is $8 and is good for both days, children younger than 12 are free.

All proceeds benefit the operations of the White Stone Volunteer Fire Department.
